Hi Katie! How are you doing?

Hey zap mag, I’m good thanks!

You’re the biggest pop star in the world right now. How does it feel?

[Laughs] well its indescribable really, I never thought something like this could ever happen to someone like me. I was just an ordinary girl from east London and by luck, I just happened to get noticed.

You performed last week at the Brits, how was that?       

       

It was surreal, I performed on the brits once before but I have to say it gets better and better. I grew up watching the show, so to perform there was incredible, especially performing on the same stage as one direction and Adele.

How does it feel when people are mean about you on the internet, and if you could give any advice to people in the same situation, what would it be?

I just don’t read it. I don’t feel the need to surround myself with negativity when I could focus on all the positivity out there including the amazing people who support my music, which I am grateful for. 

And if I could give any advice to anyone it’s to ignore the ‘haters’, they don’t deserve your attention. So, today you’re single and not particularly looking for a boyfriend?

[Laughs] Yes, I’m just trying to focus on my music for the time being.

But what about the ‘Kiall’ rumours?

[Laughs] I’ve been seeing this rumour everywhere! But Niall and I are very good friends.

So besides music, we’ve been loving your make up look recently and we and tons of other fans have been wondering what your go to make up products of this month are?

well, this month I’ve been loving the new kylie lip kit and I have to say my favourite shade has to be candy k as for me personally it’s the perfect pinky nude which I adore- kudos to kylie. Also, I’ve been using the urban decay flushed palette which is very subtle but gives your cheeks that nice rosy finish.

 So we did a poll on our website on what your fans wanted to know more about you the and funny enough the most voted question was, what’s in your handbag?

Oh wow! So, in my mulberry bag I always tend to carry a small sanitiser just to clean my hands whilst I’m out and about, an eos lip balm, my purse which has all my cards and I don’t necessarily like to bring make up unless I know I’m going to have a long day, and if I do bring make up its mainly my concealer, my Laura Mercier powder and a few mac lipsticks.

We’ve also been admiring your fashion style lately, what are your go to clothing items?

Aw thank you! It depends really, if I’m having a rest day, I’ll lounge around in jogging pants and a hoodie, whilst if I’m going out for dinner with my friends I do love a jumpsuit.

So, your album, 18, was placed third in the top ten charts worldwide, with your single, break free reaching number one in over 20 countries, how does it feel?

Amazing. Words can’t describe how I feel right now. I never expected to at least be placed in the top 10. I feel honoured and it only motivates me to continue making music.

If you could give one advice to your fans what would it be?

Do what makes you happy, and do not compare yourself to others because you’re perfect, just the way you are.

And finally, what more do we expect from Katie McDermott in the near future?

Well, let’s just say I hope you’re ready for what’s hiding up my sleeve. [Laughs] I have a new album coming out very very soon which includes collabs with a range of different artists and an exclusive world tour. The upcoming year seems very exciting and I do hope that it’s only just the beginning.
